I love Freida McFadden and I was really excited to read The Boyfriend. Unfortunately, I don’t think it’s the best she has to offer.
I found Sydney to be naive and very frustrating and felt the story lacked Freida’s usual twists and turns. In fact, the only real twist didn’t come until 89%. I found it quite predictable.
I enjoyed the dual POV, past/present storyline and short chapters as they kept me turning the pages. It was a quick read that I devoured in only a couple of sittings, but just I didn’t warm to any of the characters and it fell a bit flat for me.
