Title: The Inmate
Author: Freida McFadden
Publisher: Hollywood Upstairs Press
Publication Date: June, 2022
Genre: Thriller
Pages: 388
My Rating: ★★★★☆
Brooke Sullivan is starting out a new job at a maximum security prison. She quickly realises that her high school sweetheart, the man she put behind bars, is an inmate there. Can Brooke manage to keep her distance? Or will old feelings get in the way?
After reading both the Housemaid books and thoroughly enjoying them, I was eager to try a third Freida McFadden book in a row. I’ve got to say, I really wasn’t as impressed with this one. The plot wasn’t believable to me – they wouldn’t have employed someone with such a close relationship to an inmate. The twists weren’t as good, nothing had me that surprised. I didn’t have any WTF moments. Maybe I’ve come to expect too much of Freida, but this was well hyped on Facebook. Fell a bit short of the mark for me.
The epilogue pushed it to 4, instead of 3 stars.
Just a bit… meh.
